Summary
A mahogany and ebony-inlaid library table, English, early 19th century. The top with moulded edge and lined with leather and fitted to the frieze with three drawers, the central drawer longer and concave-fronted. Raised on a pair of pedestals fitted with a cupboard door to both their front and their reverse. Some of the cupboard once containing folio divisions, but now contain shelves. The pedestals edged with tapering pilasters inlaid with ebony lines to simulate fluting. Elsewhere inlaid with ebony lozenges and Greek key motifs. Also with decorative beadings and turned ebony pulls.
Provenance
The bequest of Margaret (Anderson) McEwan, The Hon. Mrs Ronald - later Dame Margaret - Henry Fulke Greville, DBE (1863-1942) from probate records linked with the donation of the property to the National Trust in 1943. This item found on the record for Polesden Lacey Library, page 20.
