Summary
A rosewood and inlaid games and work table, English, possibly by Gillows of Lancaster, circa 1810. The top fitted with an inlaid chess board, sliding to reveal a leather-lined backgammon well, flanked by two small platforms, a drawer below, and with a pair of hinged flaps. Once with a sliding workbag, now missing. Raised on boxwood-strung tapering square-section legs on outswept feet and united by ring-turned castors.
Provenance
The bequest of Margaret (Anderson) McEwan, The Hon. Mrs Ronald - later Dame Margaret - Henry Fulke Greville, DBE (1863-1942) from probate records linked with the donation of the property to the National Trust in 1943. This item found on the record for Polesden Lacey Library, page 19.
