Summary
Maiolica plate, painted with Perseus rescuing Andromeda, from Ovid's Metamorphoses. The reverse is inscribed with the subject and date of production 'Andromeda e perseo A libr llll d ovjdio 1544.' School of Urbino; about 1544. Andromeda was a princess who was chained to a rock to be sacrificed to a sea monster. She was saved by the hero Perseus who claimed her as his wife.
