Summary
A collection of sixteen Restoration Record Books created between 1977 and 2003 by Sheila Pettit, former Historic Buildings Representative for the National Trust, and other members of staff. Most of the scrapbooks were assembled by Pettit in the course of her work for the National Trust at Cragside. The remaining books were assembled by other members of staff at Cragside. The scrapbooks offer a record of the condition of the property when it was acquired, the work undertaken to recreate the showrooms, the restoration work undertaken on the wider estate and the special events delivered at the property between 1977 and 2003. They include fragments of wallpapers, textiles and carpets found at the property; photographs and watercolours of the property and grounds with varying dates; original letters and documents that belonged to the Armstrong family; photographs, leaflets, newspaper cuttings and other documents related to the 1979 reopening; a record of pictures and ceramics from the De Morgan Collection formerly on loan to Cragside.
