Summary
Presentation box marked on the lid 'MENS AGITAT MOLEM' (the mind moves the matter) - a quote from Vergil. Black box lined with pale blue satin and purple velvet, shaped to take mallet, plumb bobs and a trowel (trowel missing) possibly Masonic. Label inside reads, Reid & Son Goldsmiths & Jewellers to the Queen & Prince of Wales Newcastle upon Tyne. The interior of the box is lined with an old page of manuscript dated 1881, possibly from an account book, this is visible where the lining is loose in the lid. Key to box actually works.
