Summary
Watercolour on paper, Shipwreck off Gibraltar, by General Sir John Miller Adye (Sevenoaks 1819 – Rothbury 1900), signed and dated 1885. A beach scene with figures, the Rock of Gibraltar in the background, and a two-masted schooner wrecked off the coast.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
