Summary
Wooden ring with brass screw at one end and two upright brass supports with 'Swan's Patent A97' engraved on side. Labelled 'First type of Swan lampholder' These were used with Joseph Swan's first commercial lamp, introduced in 1881.
Provenance
Armstrong Collection. Transferred by the Treasury to the National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
