Summary
One of five carved oak lions being the culmination of five of the main pillars of the staircase banister; four of which support the light fittings, a fifth lion supports a wooden banner on a pole which has a carved 'A' on one side and on reverse the Armstrong coat of arms.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
