An expandable table that allows variations of seating known as a Capstan dining table designed by Robert Jupe and made by James Forsyth.
Summary
Circular expanding Capstan dining table on turned supports with scroll feet with a locking mechanism, eight wooden triangular and sixteen wooden rectangular extension pieces, possibly made by James Forsyth to an original design by Robert Jupe about 1835 patented by his company Johnstone, Jupe and Co. Includes eight 2016 replacement triangular sections.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
