Summary
Print, mezzotint, 'After the Battle': arrival of Lord Wolseley and staff at the Bridge of Tel-E;-Kebir at the close of the action on 13th September 1882 (after Lady Elizabeth Southerden Butler) by Richard Josey (1840/41 – London 1906). published by Henry Graves and Co, London, May 1st 1888. Of the original, only the central figure of Field-Marshall Garnet Joseph Wolseley, 1st Viscount Wolseley KP, GCB, OM, GCMG, VD (1833-1913) remains as the painting was cut up sometime after the print was made.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
