Summary
Woodblock print, ink and pigments on paper, a woman looking at her face in a small hand-mirror, a semi-transparent blind hanging down in front of the top half of her face, from the series Meisho Koshikake Hakkei (Eight Views of Tea Stalls in Celebrated Places), after Kitagawa Utamaro (1753–1806), c. 1795–6, signed under the mirror Utamaro hitsu (brush of Utamaro). This print may be a later reissue.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
