Summary
Watercolour on paper, The Mill, Jesmond Dene, by General Sir John Miller Adye (Sevenoaks 1819 – Rothbury 1900), monogrammed and dated 1880. A view with an arched bridge to the right and a mill cottage beyond it in the middle ground. William Armstrong, 1st Lord Armstrong of Cragside (1810-1900) lived at Jesmond Dene, now a suburb of Newcastle, with his wife Margaret, Lady Armstrong (1807-1893) before they moved to Cragside and developed the estate there.
Provenance
Armstrong collection. Transferred by the Treasury to The National Trust in 1977 via the National Land Fund, aided by 3rd Baron Armstrong of Bamburgh and Cragside (1919 - 1987).
