Summary
Institute of Archaeology 2008: Seven stone and shell fragments. Stuart Blaylock 2006: various flint and obsidian blades. A motley collection of objects, formerly on the middle shelf; listed below. In view of the varied date and provenance, these items should probably have been given separate inventory numbers. /01 A long, narrow rectangular white limestone block, pierced through the centre. Probably a section of the central band of the ‘golden frieze’ of the altar in the Eye Temple at Tell Brak (Mallowan 1947, 93; pls 3–4). /02 A grey-green stone block, ridge or grooved. Probably a fragment of the ‘golden frieze; of the Eye Temple at Tell Brak: see Mallowan 1947, 32; 93–94 and pls 3–4. This ridged block would form a fragment of a section of the corrugated register of green shale placed below the central band of white limestone, see no. 122320/01, above (ibid., 93). /03 A stone amulet fragment. /04 A shell, Cerithium sp.? (very knobbly). /05 Flint. /06 Obsidian blade, very fine. /07 Polished stone axe.
