Summary
Institute of Archaeology 2008: Small loose stone beads; two with plasticine. There is some staining from plasticine. Stuart Blaylock 2008: Various amulets and stamp seals Both seals and amulets are known classes of artefacts in Jemdat Nasr/Early Dynastic Tell Brak. Other objects, especially amulets or seals with criss-cross designs could be from Chagar Bazar or Arpachiyah, or other pre-historic sites. /01 Seven small faience amulets: five in the form of frogs (cf. Mallowan 1947, pl. 14, nos 1–5), although by co-incidence there are five in this group as well I do not think that they are the same objects. One is labelled ‘F.511A, JNP’, confirming that these are probably from Tell Brak. The remaining two amulets are small trefoils of faience, pierced through the centre. /02 Three stamp seals with cross-hatched designs; prehistoric; could be from Arpachiyah (cf. Mallowan and Rose 1934, chapter 7; figs 50–51; pls 6–8), or Chagar Bazar (cf. Mallowan 1936, fig. 7, nos. 3–5). /03 Seven small stamp seals, six in the form of ducks one some other animal, possibly a dog (top in photograph), this labelled ‘G.36’, therefore probably from Tell Brak (cf. Mallowan 1947, pls 11–14) The duck amulets are also found at Brak (ibid., pl. 16, 1; 3).
