Summary
Sarcophagus of the Marquess of Londonderry, set upon the grave of the Seventh Marquess of Londonderry, depicting many scenes of his life interests etc. Description of carved scenes - south side of base - RAF insignia, eagle surrounded by inscription in ring surmounted by a crown. East side - left to right - large fish head up, tail down. Shield with six small birds intercepted by zigzag line, large stag facing right, walking on leaves. Shield with three armoured left handed gloves surrounded by a ring with St. George medal suspended below. Large horse facing left, one foreleg held aloft, walking on oak leaves. Shield with two rampant lions separated by segmented bands. Fish, head down, tail up. North side - depiction representing Coronation. Baldachin/canopy supported on two legs with four tassels suspended. Below, a plaque with Royal Crown on top. West side - left to right - Large galleon, sails drawn up and five oars. Shield quartered by 'X' band, Royal Crown in centre. Half in bottom segment, red hand of Ulster in left quarter, book on top of seahorse in right quarter. Depiction of 'Joker' hands playing cards with base below. Shield with three griffin heads and five crosses, surrounded by circular band with St. George's Cross suspended below. Shield/insignia of Ulster B Squad Auxiliary Air Force with No.502 on it. Red hand in centre surmounted by Royal Crown. Shield with large cross and corner representing three lions with inverted 'V'. Three hunting dogs, one walking in grass, two running. Coat of Arms of family on lid of sarcophagus. Bottom section - large sword in centre with insignia on right side of sword. Inscription on sides of lid.
