Summary
Mezzotint engraving, Selina, Lady Skipwith (1752-1832), by Norman Hirst (Liverpool 1862-1956) after Sir Joshua Reynolds PRA (Plympton 1723 - London 1792), c. 1900-20. A mezzotint engraving by Norman Hirst after the original portrait by Reynolds (The Frick Collection, 1906.1.102). Probably published by Henry Graves & Co., London. Within a damaged Hogarth frame, 'HENRY GRAVES & CO. LTD' label pasted on reverse. See British Museum, London, for a working proof by Hirst (mezzotint on chine collé, Lady Selina Skipwith after Reynolds, acc.no. 1924,0510.85).
Provenance
On loan to the National Trust from Lady Mairi Bury (1921-2009), 1976, then purchased by the National Trust from the Estate of Lady Mairi Bury 2012.
