Summary
One of two oval sauce tureens with covers on integral shaped saucers, part of a Paris porcelain partial ornithological dessert service, circa 1860, the centres painted with various exotic birds, with solid green and gilt borders. Made by Rousseau, Rue Coquilliere, (back stamped). This one with blue bird on one side and peaches on reverse.
Provenance
On loan to the National Trust from Lady Mairi Bury (1921-2009), 1976, then accepted by HM Government in lieu of Inheritance Tax and allocated to the National Trust, 2013
