Summary
A large Victorian rocking horse, painted dappled grey and green. It is much damaged and shows signs of past repairs. It is tail-less and without reins; the saddle and stirrup straps are replacements of poor quality. 'Dobbin' was given to Amy Elizabeth Beale (born 1891) in 1894, by her parents Mr and Mrs James Beale, the original owners of Standen, possibly for learning her alphabet.
Provenance
Mr and Mrs James Beale (original owners of Standen) gave 'Dobbin' to their eldest daughter, Amy Elizabeth (born Feb.1871) in 1874 possibly for learning her alphabet. Amy Elizabeth was the mother of Mrs Elizabeth Motley.
