Summary
One of two wall lights each consisting of a square bronzed-copper sconce embossed with a sunflower and foliage design, from which extends a crane-arm terminating in an opalescent glass rosette fitting, a length of flex decorated with three opaline glass twists and an opalescent fluted glass shade. Ensuite with five wall lights with rectangular sconces also in this room. They were designed by Philip Webb for this room, with the glass supplied by James Powell and Sons of Whitefriars, and the sconces made by the artist/coppersmith John Pearson. Webb allowed Pearson some freedom in interpreting his design since each is slightly different. The sunflower was a favourite motif of the contemporary Aesthetic movement, and it matches the motif in the wallpaper and the fireplace cheeks.
