Summary
A small mahogany two-tier table, English, after the design by E.W. Godwin, circa 1870. The square moulded top raised on ring-turmed legs which taper to bun feet, joined midway by an undertier supported by an angled spindle gallery. The pair to NT 1214041.
Full description
E.W. Godwin (1833-86) began his architectural career as a confidant of William Burges and throughout his short career produced furniture designs for a number of commercial furniture manufacturers, including William Watt and Collinson & Lock. He was one of the first designers to be influenced by Japanese principles of design and became one of the best-known designers of the new Aesthetic movement.
