A mahogany occasional table, Morris & Co. after a design by W.A.S. Benson, circa 1900. The circular dished top raised on block and turned angled baluster supports united by a smaller circular undertier and standing on square moulded-edge splayed legs.
Full description
W.A.S Benson (1853-1924) trained as an architect and through his friendship with Burne-Jones met William Morris, who persuaded him to set up a metalwork workshop in 1880 which prospered until his retirement in 1920. Upon the death of William Morris, Benson became chairman of Morris & Co.
