Summary
One of a set of fourteen solid mahogany dining chairs, English, supplied by S & H Jewell in 1894. Each with slightly arched toprail and solid vase splat flanked by turned posts, the drop-in embroidered seats with plain rails and standing on cabriole legs with trefid feet and joined by stretchers. It is understood that Miss Maggie Beale was responsible for the design of the seats and that the Royal School of Needlework embroidered the 'fantastic' animals at the centre of each seat which include dragons and ho-ho birds, whilst the surrounding floral design was executed by Mrs Beale and some of her daughters. Ensuite with the pair of armchairs NT 1213986.
