Ultramarine blue hand-laid distemper ground on machine-made lesser quality paper. Block-printed in golden yellow with black block-printed outline. Black outline likely to be printed from an inlaid metal block. Ultramarine blue ground ? Short fibered, less good quality paper. Cotton and Esparto ?

Summary
Wallpaper Box 15 and 15b. Emblems of Tudor rose, crown and fleur-de-lys. Background of ultramarine with satinwood emblems. Possibly produced by Crace, after Pugin. c.1840. 1 of 6 fragments and many small fragments. (V&A description). c. 1860s - Stylised heraldic Fleur-de-Lys, rose & coronet, block printed in yellow ochre with black outline on an ultramarine ground (Allyson McDermott's description - see "Investigation into the use of wallpapers at Oxburgh Hall, Norfolk. April 2013").
Provenance
Campaign of Decoration: 6th / 7th Baronets. C 1860s. Original Location: Upper floors of the new East wing. In the style of Pugin, a design probably then developed by Crace for more commercial use. Many of these blocks were designed to be interchangeable and could be used with metals, flocks and distempers on a variety of grounds.
