Full description
Flintlock military musket (with bayonet) c1800, by Lambertus Michaelis Thone, gunmaker (active 1795-1806), Amsterdam. Round iron barrel with a turned moulding at the breech and bayonet lug at the muzzle. The breech stamped with the Amsterdam Arms mark and a serial number N441. Retained to the stock by 3 brass barrel bands, each acting as a ramrod retainer. The front 2 bands retained by a spring clip. The front band shaped with integral ramrod pipe; the middle band with an iron sling swivel. Iron ramrod. Barrel length 106.2cm. Calibre 21mm. Walnut full stock with a flat comb to top of butt. Brass furniture comprising; butt-plate with a flat tang and retained by 2 raised head screws, trigger guard with iron sling swivel, sideplate and escutcheon (engraved with crossed anchor mark). Flintlock with half round, half flat plate, engraved THONE, AMSTERDAM. Angled brass flashpan, ring-neck cock, the frizzen with an oblique-shaped top. Overall length of musket: 144.7cm. Steel socket bayonet with 34.5cm triangular blade. The socket engraved AN1035.
