Summary
Regulator clock. C19, mahogany. Designed for high accuracy, with an eight-day movement striking the hours. This type of clock is known as a Regulator. The maker's name 'J. Marshall, Alnwick', is inscribed on the steel dial. Seconds dial. Blued steel hands. Pendulum and two weights visible. Arched mahogany case with pierced carved foliage screen below dial, glazed door.
Provenance
From Callaly Castle, the family home of Augusta Clavering, the wife of the 7th Baronet. Given to Mrs Violet Hartcup by Augusta Clavering who brought up Violet. Given to the National Trust in 1985 by Violet Hartcup, Lady Sybil Bedingfeld's niece.
