This concealed door was created for Sir Henry Paston-Bedingfeld, 6th Baronet. He was a great book-lover and used dummy book spines to make witty references for his guests to enjoy such as ‘La Porte’ (‘The door’).

Provenance
Part of the Bedingfeld Collection. The house was given to the National Trust in 1952 by Sybil, Lady Bedingfeld (1883-1985), her daughter Mrs Greathead, and her niece Violet Hartcup.
