This concealed door was created for Sir Henry Paston-Bedingfeld, 6th Baronet. He was a great book-lover and used dummy book spines to make witty references for his guests to enjoy such as ‘La Porte’ (‘The door’).
Gib door, with false-front bookcases top and bottom. Includes 'Seel on Calculation'.
Part of the Bedingfeld Collection. The house was given to the National Trust in 1952 by Sybil, Lady Bedingfeld (1883-1985), her daughter Mrs Greathead, and her niece Violet Hartcup.
