Summary

A carved and inlaid oak chest, English, dated 1589. The plank lid centred with a walnut inlaid square containing initials and date RG 1589 outlined in black mastic, above a frieze of geometric inlay and three panels similarly inlaid and framed by guilloche arches, each with upper foliate corners and outer guilloche border, on stop fluted stile feet, the lower rail with egg and dart edges.
