William Collingwood’s charming watercolour view of the Oak Parlour in 1854 is an updating of the domestic scene portrayed in Nash’s view (see 1195698). The frame is an interesting example of the 1880s fashion known as ‘rough deals’, using coarse softwood which is gilded for decorative effect.
