Summary
Rectangular Tunbridge ware games box, the lid featuring a view of a ruined abbey with surrounding grape and vine leaf borders; the body with 'Berelin' floral borders, all in micromosaic on a rosewood ground. The recessed base covered in textured paper; no feet. There is an decorative (mosaic) keyhole eschutcheon and a two lever lock (no key). The inside, covered in purple silk inside the lid and purple paper in the box, has had its former divisions (for packs of cards, counters etc.) removed. There a paper tie-on label with the date Dec 19589 + 66 perhaps an auctioneer's lot number. Mid 19th Century.
