Summary
French prisoners of war straw case for carrying silks; masonic art work design, 5 viewing windows. Long rectangular case for embroidery silks, with plant borders in straw marquetry and five windows on one side and one on the other. The inner sliding section (enclosing stiff folded paper for keeping the silks straight) is embellished with a flower on one side and five motifs on the other, including a courting couple, an apple and pear, two flowers and a masonic emblem. Possibly POW work, early 19th century.
