Marble sculpture, Robert Stewart, 2nd Viscount Castlereagh & 2nd Marquess of Londonderry, KG, GCH, MP (1769–1822) by Sir Francis Legatt Chantrey RA (Norton, nr. Sheffield 1781 – London 1841), circa 1821. A marble portrait bust of a man in classical dress. The sitter is Lord Castlereagh, Robert Stewart, son of 2nd Marquis of Londonderry. It is a copy of Sir Francis Chantrey's bust of Lord Castlereagh, the original marble signed and dated 1821, now in Yale Centre for British Art, New Haven - ex Wynyard Park (?). The Bardiglio marble pedestal, carved by Clivedon CW 15.20.2003.
Provenance
Purchased by the National Trust from John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and the Powis Estate Trustees in June 2010.
