Summary
Livery tailcoat, c1900. Dark blue wool with raised nap lined with scarlet worsted twill, structure outlined with scarlet wool piping details. Hand and machine sewn. Turned down collar, false buttonholes, fastened with 1 hook and eye at opening point which is cut straight diagonally to the tails. 14 metal buttons decorated with a Herbert crest. Sleeves curved to cuffs, false pockets with flapos and tail pockets. The name Stannard is written inside the armhole of the left sleeve.
Provenance
Coat worn by William Stannard, footman c.1920. Purchased by the National Trust from John George Herbert, 8th Earl of Powis and the Powis Estate Trustees in June 2010.
