Summary
Rug; Carpet - A 19th century large tabriz carpet. Centre ground of massed flowers within 2 main leaf cartouches, within 11 main borders (26 all together). At either end woven into carpet is an Arabic cartouche which reads 'Made by Master Abu al-Qasim Kirmani 1314 (1896/7)' (translated by Benjamin Hallum).
Provenance
Recorded in 1944 Inventory as ‘The handsome figured and bordered 28’6” x 19’6” Persian carpet and underfelt' in Oak Drawing Room. Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership in 1992.
