Summary
The fifth of eighteen taxidermy display cases containing stuffed birds. Most of the birds date from c.1850, and the oak cases were probably made by Henry Shaw, Shrewsbury (1812-1887). This case contains game birds and grouse, including two capercaillie, a male and a female, three red grouse, four quail, three ptarmigan, with both winter and summer plumage, a grey partridge and chicks, and two black grouse, a male and a female.
