Summary
Third of eighteen taxidermy display cases containing stuffed birds. Most of the birds date from c.1850, and the oak cases were probably made by Henry Shaw, Shrewsbury (1812-1887). This display contains British and European owls, including two Barn owls, and a chick, two Long-eared owls, two Scops owls, two Tengmalm’s owls, two Eagle owls, two Tawny owls, two Snowy owls and a Short-eared owl.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
