Summary
Coachman's livery cape / coat, c1900. Dark blue and scarlet wool with raised nap. Hand and machine sewn. Scarlet turn-down collar, cape of alternate blue; scarlet; blue; scarlet; blue; scarlet layers. main coat blue. Sleeves curved to scarlet cuffs. 2 pocket flaps only, with button. Front opening with piped detail in scarlet worsted fastening with 8 metal buttons (2 missing) bearing Herbert coat of arms and 8 buttonholes. Lined throughout with Scarlet worsted (twill weave) with brown cotton (twill weave) lining the breast pockets.
