Summary
Curtain - One of a pair of green silk cut velvet curtains in "Pears pattern" of fruits and flowers arranged formally on a central axis. Matches the suite of furniture in the Oak Drawing Room.
Provenance
The 'Pears' pattern was designed by G. F. Bodley in 1874 for Watts & Co. to use as a wallpaper, the design taken from a flock paper. dated c1735, formally at Hampton Court. (Country Life Oct. 21 1993. p.82.). Recorded in 1944 Inventory as ‘A pair of green satin and stamped velvet curtains green silk panels trimmed gold braid lined pale green and old gold damask' in Oak Drawing Room. Purchased by the National Trust in 2005.
