Summary
Lead sculpture, copy of an Arcadian Shepherd playing a Flute by workshop of John Nost II (d.London 1729). One of four Arcadian shepherds/sheperdesses on the Aviary Terrace. Standing figure of an Arcadian sherpherd playing a flute, wearing a broad brimmed hat and a knee-length aproned coat, fastened by a belt from which a waterbottle hangs. Right elbow on rustic post, legs crossed, with a small dog on his right foot. Original stolen 27-28.1.1992, never returned; this is copy of a sculpture from Cannons Ashby similar to stolen piece.
Provenance
The original was amongst the sculpture within the grounds of Powis Castle and Gardens and part of the original bequest of the property in 1952. This piece along with the others was stolen in 1992 and was never recovered. This statue is a copy of of the original.
