Summary
Marble sculpture, Charles Long, 1st Lord Farnborough (1761-1838) by Sir Francis Legatt Chantrey RA (Norton, nr. Sheffield 1781 – London 1841), 1820. A marble portrait bust studio copy of the original bust now in the National Portrait Gallery. Lord Farnborugh was the Paymaster General, Chief Secretary for Ireland; MP for Rye, Midhurst, Wendover and Haslemere as well as an art connoisseur and trustee and benefactor of the National Gallery.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
