Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Margaret Maskelyne, Lady Clive (1735-1817) (after Margaret Sarah Carpenter), attributed to George Engleheart (Kew 1750 – Blackheath 1839). Head and shoulders portrait of a mature lady turned to the left, gazing to the left, wearing a yellow dress with deep lace collar and tall lace bonnet. Dark eyes, grey hair, as an old lady. Plain grey background. (Tex.Cat.T/160). Old label attached on the reverse, with ink inscription 'Lady Clive, wife of Robert 1st Ld.Clive'. the reverse inscribed 'Margaret Maskelyne, Lady Clive'. Miniature in red leather case with white silk lining.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
