Summary
Shawl handkerchief; red silk square bordered with a small-scale geometric diaper. Ornate motif based on the Kashmir/Paisley cone embroidered in silver thread and blue silk in each corner of the field; lengths of silver braid and tassels were originally attached at regular intervals round all four sides (most missing) S. or W.India (Madras or Bombay/Surat), early 19th century. Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
