Summary
Bronze sculpture, The Hindu Elephant-headed God Ganesha, Indian (South India - Tamilnadu) School, circa 1800. Bronze figure of the elephant-headed god Ganesha sitting on a lotus seat beneath a detachable horseshoe arch encircled by flames. His upper left and right hands hold the noose and elephant goad, the lower left hand holds a sweetmeat and the right his severed tusk. His trunk coils to the left holding a sweetmeat formed into a ball.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
