Summary
Bronze sculpture, The Hindu God Vishnu, Indian (South India - Tamilnadu) School, circa 1800. Small figure of the God Vishnu with his consorts; the god holds the discus and the conch in his upper hands and his lower left rests on his hip. His lower right hand displays a lotus bud. The detachable niche-like halo is simpler than that of BR.13 and has the two Goddesses Lakshmi and Bhudevi standing in front of its pillars. Their inner arms hang down, the flowers are in their outer hands and Lakshmi is shown without the ususal breastband.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
