Summary
Firearm. Pistol - One of a pair of double-barelled percussion pistols, by J. Beattie, Manufacturer of Guns and Pistols, Regent Street, London. (Formally on inventory as POW.MIL.19). Barrel : 2 round iron barrels formed one above the other, seperated by fluted ribs. Formed with rounded cupped breeches for the nipples, each breech with a platinum safety vent and stamped with London proof marks. The breech an muzzle engraved. Blade foresight. Under-rib with housing for captive-link steel ramrod. Calibre 6mm. Stock: Walnut bag-shaped grip, finely chequered and inset with vacnat silver escutcheon. Engraved buttcap containing hinged cap compartment. Boxlock: Iron framed box-lock containing percussion action with right and left dolfin engraved hammers, the exterior profusely engraved with foliate design. The engraved top strap incorporating a raise rear sight and signed with scrolling banner, J.BEATTIE, 205 REGENT STREET, LONDON. The left side of frame fitted with belt hook. Double curved triggers and large engraved trigger guard.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Treasury on 21st March, 1963 in lieu of tax and conveyed to National Trust ownership on 29th November 1963.
