Summary
Print; Engraving - Sir Hugh Myddelton's Glory, or The First Issuing of the Water into the New River Head by George Bickham the elder (1684-1758) . Coloured engraving in a gilded oak frame by Pugin. Sir Hugh Myddelton, 1st Bt (1560 - 1631) the projector of the New River, a canal which brough water from Chadwell and Amwell in Hertfordshire to a reservoir in Clerkenwell whence it supplied the City of London. Work was completed in 1613. In the following year Myddelton sold shares in the undertaking and in 1619 the New River Company was incorporated.
