Summary
Scissor case fragment. The outer fabric is (?) warp-printed silk, half-weighted, with possibly a four-point satin weave. The lining is made of a medium pink, five-point cotton sateen. The case is made up from single shaped panels of outer fabric and lining, folded and machine lock-stitched together with red Z-ply thread to form an elongated diamond shape. The outer edges are top-stitched by machine. There is a short length of narrow, scarlet silk ribbon knotted through a point just below the centre of the opening of the case.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
