Summary
Embroidered canvas border/frieze. Border is of un-dyed and yellow dyed linen of single canvas plain weave. The embroidery is in wool which is dyed red/brown, two shades of blue, five shades of green, gold, beige, coral pink, blue/green, mauve, lilac, orange, black, grey and two shades of yellow. Also embroidered in silk which is dyed coral re, yellow, ivory, pale and mid-blue, orange, red, pink, coral pink, green, blue/green, lime green, pale lilac, brown, dark green in tent stitch. The design is of five birds on cherry tree branches with a repeat of thirty-eight cm and each repeat is worked in different colours.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
