Summary
Embroidered bell pull. Fabric: Ivory cotton (?) warp and double weft. Unbalanced plain weave. Embroidery: Applied silk motifs from Chinese embroidery, and re-worked with straight, buttonhole and couching. Design: Figures, flowers and butterflies. Lining: Undyed cotton. Plain weave. Trimming: Metal ornament of a peacock and a tree sewn to navy silk plain weave. Metal ornament one end, bar and hook one end. Structure: Hand sewn. Label: Embroidered signature and date - 'L.M.Yorke' and '1911'.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
