Summary
Embroidered bell pull. Fabric: Undyed linen. Plain weave. Embroidery: Cotton-a-broider, dyed scarlet, maroon, green, brown, beige, gold, cream and black. Silk dyed blue, ivory, cream and gold. In buttonhole, straight, stem, French knots, satin, couching. Design: Pre-drawn or transfer (?) flower and stem meander. Includes poppies and cornflowers. Label: (i) Embroidered, 'L.M.Yorke' and date '1911'. (ii) Small luggage label, 'W/B/Room'. Lining: Beige cotton plain weave. Trimming: Bar and chain one end. Structure: Hand sewn, supporting bars at intervals.
Provenance
Given by Philip Yorke III (1905-1978) along with the estate, house and contents to the National Trust in 1973.
