Summary
Human skull. Skull of an adult individual, probably male. The mandible (jaw bone) is absent but the remainder of the skull is present. No teeth have been found in association with the skull though a small fragment of root is still visible in the socket of the first upper right premolar. Handwritten black ink labels can be seen on various bones of the skull suggesting use as a teaching aid.
Full description
Skull of an adult individual assessed as being probably male due to sexually dimorphic traits of the skull including pronounced nuchal crest, elongated and robust mastoid process, pronounced glabella and thickened orbital ridge. No dentition survives therefore aging of the skull is problematic. All sutures are fused and the presence of sockets for all four third molars indicates this is the skull of an adult individual. Handwritten black ink labels seen for: Maxilla, Temporals, Squamous Portion, Sphenoid, Occipital, Frontal (though very faded above left brow).
